Tucker Monster SS Wilson Michelle Deal 9780982722206 Books

By the same guy that brought you Short Circuit and the Tremors movies, Tucker's Monster is a lot of fun. Excellent science fiction of the 50's grenre, it is a fast read with a good plot and a lot of action. If you're into 'snob' sci-fi, take a pass on this one but if you occasionally like a bit of escapist action, this is a book you should add to your collection.
Science is reasonably sound, characters are well developed in general, and situations are believable given the premises.

Tucker Monster SS Wilson Michelle Deal 9780982722206 Books Reviews

"Tucker's Monster is a magnificent adventure tale! SS Wilson brings the Wild West era remarkably alive with eccentric characters in search of a living dinosaur. Their exciting, dangerous chronicle is witty, unpredictable, and captivating for all ages." -- Brinke Stevens - actress, writer, producer
Tucker's Monster

Tucker's Monster proves that the pursuit of ones' dreams is worth the perseverance. This book provides a good mix of adventure with fantasy. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the plot changes, yet again. I felt that the book was very well written, with picturesque details, and the passion of it's author that comes shining though. It's a quick and worthwhile read. I can't wait to see what S.S. Wilson comes us with next.
I opened this book and was hooked right away! I finished it in 2 days since I didn't want to put it down. It's very well written as far as the way the characters and situations are described. It paints a very clear and fun picture. I wish I was there with these characters in the story having their great adventures! It was very enjoyable to think along with Mr. Tucker what I would do in his situations. I think this would make an excellent movie, which makes sense since the author also wrote Short Circuit and Tremors - both totally fun movies.
I don't normally write book reviews, so bear with me if I start to ramble.

While I didn't know what to expect in this book at first, it didn't take much reading before I was glad I bought it. A fun, interesting, and generally 'different' take on all those classic movie monsters (werewolves, ghosts, mummies, whathaveyous) and the people who seek them out. Taking place at the start of the 20th century, the story follows the titular Tucker, a rich rancher who's desperate to find a living dinosaur somewhere on the planet. Taking with him his capable and devoted wife and his newly-hired (and fairly skeptical) zoologist, he travels all around the world, following whatever lead he comes across and searching for whatever mystical beast the locals swear exists.

The book is, as I mentioned, a very fun read. The main reason for this is the excellent characters sprinkled throughout, from the leads to the folks who just show up for a page or two. Tucker himself is a fascinating character, from his determined demeanor to the reasons for his tireless search to his habit of always going with the biggest of anything (particularly in his choice of firearms). The book plays with a lot of the tropes and cliches that tend to pop up in the old stories (the fearful backwater town, the terrible curses from gypsies and mummies, the lost treasure guarded by a vengeful spirit, etc.), and has fun exposing them for the hogwash they are. That is not to say a few fantasy elements don't show up here and there, and when they do they are handed quite well.

There are times when the book feels like it's the compressed version of a longer series, like it could be expanded into another volume or so (and I don't just say this in regards to the found-letters framing device the story works in). This is not a criticism, it's just me wishing there was more of the story to discover. It's a good read for just about any age, particularly for folks who have a hankering for a good mix of fantasy and reality. I'm certainly glad I got my copy, and plan to get some more to pass on to others in the future.
Very enjoyable
Great story told by a great story teller. A fun book.
Excellent book! I expected much, as I loved the Tremors movies, and S.S. Wilson delivered.
